Manipuri author Budhichandra Heisnamba won Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018

Imphal, Dec. 6 (EMN): Manipur’s author Budhichandra Heisnamba was among the six authors who won Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018.

Budhichandra, who originally hails from Komlakhong Mayai Leikai, is currently a resident of Sagolband Moirang Hanuba Leirak in Imphal west district, won the award for his collection of short stories ‘Ngamkheigee Wangmada’ written in Manipuri language.

Born to Heisnam Yaiskul and Heisnam Ongbi Keinaton on May 1 1973, Budhichandra teaches history at Thambal Marik College, Oinam in Bishnupur district.

Forty five year old author who had published three books including two short story books — Apikpa Nungshashor andNgamkheigee Wangmada and one poetry book —Ningtamba amasung Atiya in Manipuri language, had won the Yumnam Lala Amasung Bidhumukhi Ningshing Sahitya Mana conferred by Manipuri Sahitya Parishad (MSP).He is the life member of MSP, Manipuri Sahitya Premi Samiti, Manipuri Literary Society, Cultural Forum and Fiction And Poetry Club Manipur.

Three other authors from three different languages in the Northeast have also been conferred Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018 when the Sahitya Akademi announced the annual in 24 languages on Wednesday.

The three authors from Northeast who won the awards include Assamese poet Sananta Tanti for his collection of poems ‘Kailoir Dinto Amar Hobo’, Bodo writer Rituraj Basumatary for his collection of short stories ‘Dwngse Lama’ and Loknath Upadhyay Chapagain for his short story collection ‘Kino Royeu Upamaa’ written in Nepali language.

The awards were recommended by distinguished jury members representing 24 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi on Friday under the chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, president of the Sahitya Akademi.

The award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and a cheque of INR 1,00,000 will be presented to the authors of these books at a special function to be held on January 29 in New Delhi during the Festival of Letters organised by Sahitya Akademi.
