Imphal, Feb. 21 (EMN): Manipur witnessed fresh snowfall at Liyai Khullen, Liyai Khunou villages and Mao Area Mountains, located about 130 km north of Imphal in Senapati district along the Manipur-Nagaland border on Monday.
D K Isaac Caasi, chairman of Liyai Khullen village, said that, ‘the snowfall occurred at his village from last night till this morning’. He further informed that snowfall occurs every year in the village during this time (January-February).
The forest areas of Liyai Khullen were covered with a thick blanket of snow till Monday morning. Mountain ranges under Mao area including the popular base camp area and security barracks site also witnessed snowfall, a resident of Senapati district headquarters informed.
This is the second time Liyai Khullen village witnessed snowfall after the village was covered with snow on February 2.
Many places in the state which recorded a minimum temperature 3.66 degrees celsius on Sunday, as per the daily weather report, continued to witness rainfall.
It may be mentioned that Shirui village in Ukhrul district where the state flower Shirui Lily (Lilium Mackliniae) grows, also witnesses snowfall annually.
