Koireng tribe seeks protection from Governor
President KYO Boipu Koireng led team meeting Manipur Governor on Friday.

IMPHAL — A team of Koireng Youth Organisation (KYO) led by its president, RN Boipu Koireng, and three others called on Manipur Governor, Anusuiya Uikey, and apprised on the prevailing situation arising out of the recent violence in the state and urged the governor to take all possible steps to normalise the situation at the earliest.

“The team also earnestly requested the governor to provide security, protection and safety to the Koireng tribe along with the provision of essential commodities,” stated a press release issued by Governor’s secretariat in Imphal on Friday.

In another development, the Inspector General of Police (Rapid Action Force), Anne Abraham, and five senior officers of the force also called on the governor at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Friday.

Highlighting the security deployment in the most vulnerable areas of Imphal region, the IGP briefed the governor about the prevailing situation and security measures, which are put in place to prevent any further untoward incidents in the state.

Governor also advised the IGP to take all necessary and rapid action to contain the prevailing violence and to put all efforts to maintain law and order and to bring normalcy in the state.

Meanwhile, the All Manipur Brahmin Organisation (AMBO) team also appealed to the governor to facilitate the rebuilding of the worship places burnt, destroyed or damaged in the aftermath of the clashes irrespective of religion or places, the release said.

The team apprised the governor about the condition of the victims after the May 3 incidents and the difficulties faced by the displaced people.

A team of Adhivakta members comprising of its general secretary, Salam Rupachandra Singh, along with the joint secretary, S Suresh Singh, and Mahila Pramukth Laishram Sanjeeka Devi also called on Manipur governor at Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Stating that peace and harmony that has been disturbed in the state needs to be restored, the team urged the governor to put all efforts to bring back normalcy so that peace and that tranquility will prevail in the state.

Laishram Angam Chand Singh, chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission, also called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Friday.
