Manipur village witness non-stop blazing fire, officials inspect site

Imphal, March 17 (EMN): Kangchup Makhom village in Kangpokpi district, Manipur is witnessing non-stop blazing fire emitting from underneath the soil near the village, where it continues.
According to the villagers, the burning flame was first spotted in the terrace field on March 13. The villagers were anxious that it could create danger to livestock, standing crops and inhabitants surrounding the areas.
In view of the development, Kangchup Makhom village chief, Jangkhokam Lotzem had written to the sub divisional officer (SDO) of Kangchup Geljang sub-division under Kangpokpi district and urged the administration to survey the area by the Geological Survey of India.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, SDO T Opendra visited the village and inspected the site. Prior to the SDO’s visit, a team of researchers had also inspected the areas. It was informed that the researchers are also currently examining the matter.
