Imphal, Aug. 29 (EMN):
To accommodate students who have passed the recently declared High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, Manipur government has upgraded nine government high schools to higher secondary level with effect from the academic session 2021-22.

The upgraded high schools are Kason Khullen High School, Praja High School, Khonghampat High School, Kamjong High School, Urup High School, Oinam Government Girl’s High School, Siribon High School, Wabagai High School and New Tusom Frontier High School.

In an order, Education (S) Commissioner, M Harekrishna mentioned that there were 59 higher secondary schools as compared to 363 high schools in the state and in the recently declared HSLC examination, 100 percent pass percentage was registered.

“Due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country, parents/guardians are still apprehensive of sending their wards to other states for higher studies. There is a need for establishment of more higher secondary schools in the state in order to provide admission avenues to students, who have cleared the HSLC, 2021 conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur or equivalent boards”, it stated.

The commissioner continued that the order was issued in cognisance of the pressing need to ensure admission to students for higher studies in government schools in the state and to allay fear and uncertainty among the students/parents over inability to get admission in higher classes and in anticipation of a government decision in this regard.

Further, services of senior most lecturers in the existing schools were allowed to be utilised as principal and vice principal in these schools along with utilisation of the services of qualified graduate teachers of the department wherever required, in their respective grade pay and without any extra remuneration, the order said.
