Manipur Tourism dept. organises meeting on Loktak Lake project

A one-day brainstorming session on the proposed “Loktak Lake Eco-Tourism Project” under externally aided project (EAP) to be funded by ADB (Asian Development Bank) was held in Imphal recently, according to DIPR sources.

The session, organised by the Tourism department was attended by Manipur Tourism Minister Oinam Lukhoi Singh, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) P Vaiphei, Director (Tourism) W Ibohal Singh and Director (Fisheries) H Balkrisna Singh and other heads of various departments.

The proposed project, which is likely to cost around $ 288m, targets to sustainably restore and improve Loktak Lake ecosystem and eco-tourism development, thereby enhancing the livelihood for the local communities and alleviating poverty.

The concept plan of the project includes rules and regulations for construction of Jetty, bird sanctuary, hump bridge, rope way etc.

The session started with the introductory remarks by Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar after which Director (Tourism) Ibohal delivered brief notes on the project. As part of the session, Project Management Consultants (PMC) presented a powerpoint presentation on the project followed by interaction & clarification among the participants.

While appreciating the efforts of the state officials belonging to various departments and other project consultants, Minister Lukhoi Singh instructed the officers to give more effort in implementing this mega tourist project successfully to make Manipur a wonderful tourist hub.
