Imphal, Sep. 4 (EMN):
Manipur is all set to send more than 400 athletes, coaches and officials as its contingent for the upcoming 36th National Games in Gujarat starting from September 29 to October 12, secretary general of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), Sunil Elangbam, said.

Addressing a press conference at the Olympic Bhavan in Imphal on Sunday, Sunil informed that MOA senior vice president, Konsam Baruni Singh, will be the chef-de-mission of the Manipur contingent while vice president, M Rachandra Singh will be the team manager.

The 36th National Games of India is all set to take place in six cities of Gujarat between September 29 and October 12. After a gap of seven years, the cities of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Bhavnagar will host 36 different games.

“Manipur athletes will be competing in 23 sports disciplines…We’ll get more medals this time because we’ll have more individual and contact sports participants this time,” he said.

Performance of Manipur, which is known as a sports powerhouse, saw a sharp decline in the backdrop of the second position it secured in the 34th National Games held at Ranchi, Jharkhand, in 2011.
