Manipur to launch go-to-the-village mission in May
Biren Singh appeals to the people to work together towards maintaining transparency to help the needy

Imphal, April 5 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthonbam Biren Singh on April 5 Thursday convened a day long discussion for the upcoming ‘Go to the Village’ mission at Darbar Hall of Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
The discussion session was attended by the Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar, Works minister Th Biswajit, Consumers affairs and public distribution minister Karam Shyam, Forest minister Th Shyamkumar, sports minister Letpao Haokip, social welfare ministers Nemcha Kipgen, state chief secretary Dr Suresh Babu and other top officials of the state government.
Speaking on the occasion Biren Singh appealed the people to work together towards maintaining transparency to help poor and needy people and bring positive change in the state.
Stating that under the ‘Go to the Village’ mission, the ministers and government officials would visit every village in each and every constituency of the state, he asked the officials to cooperate in making Manipur a ‘model state’ for development in the country.
The chief minister also announced that there would be an interaction session cum meeting regarding the ‘Go to the Village’ mission at City Convention Centre in Imphal on April 8 wherein all the cabinet ministers, administrative secretaries, DCs, head of departments and other top officials should attend the interaction programme to chalk out plans for the successful of the mission which is scheduled to be launched during the first week of May. He also assured that the government would provide alternative livelihood to those farmers who were engaged in poppy plantation in the past.
Biren Singh further stated that the government would identify and encourage promising entrepreneurs especially those living in villages.
Maintaining that infrastructure mapping of villages would be done soon he directed the DCs to create wide awareness campaigns about the mission in every district of the state. He however assured that there would be no financial crunch under the ‘Go to the Village’ mission to bring inclusive development in the State.
The chief minister also advised the tops officials to co-ordinate, co-operate and share knowledge among them to make the mission successful and to bring inclusive development in the state. He informed that ‘teamwork’ is a must to overcome any problems. Sectors such as agriculture, power, education, health etc. would be given foremost priority under the mission. He added a committee would be formed with the chief minster as chairman, deputy chief minister as vice-chairman, PWD minister as convenor and MLAs as members in order to make the mission successful.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and central ministers appreciated the efforts and achievements of the new BJP led coalition government in Manipur during last one year, he added.
Biren Singh also sought help and cooperation from the officials of the state government including the top officers in making Manipur a model state for development in the country.
Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar also spoke on the occasion.
