Imphal, Feb. 23 (EMN):Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee K Therie today appealed to hold free and fair elections in Manipur alleging that not only the star campaigners of the congress party but even the candidate themselves are not allowed to visit their constituencies.

Participating in a media briefing at Congress bhavan in Imphal, Nagaland Congress chief Therie said, “We should give respect to the minority Christian and Muslim in the state.”

On the role of regional political parties in the ensuing elections in Manipur, Therie said, “You vote for NPF, your politics ends at Kohima, you vote for NPP and your political destination ends at Shillong.”

Who is going to be responsible in the parliament? Who is going to voice on behalf of us in the parliament?, he questioned and stated that it is the congress or otherwise the BJP. These two national political parties are going to stand for the people. “But we’re not comfortable and we did not fit the ideology of the BJP,” he adds.

Therefore the tribal states can be protected only with the congress party, he said and added, “We need a secular nation.”

Meanwhile, AICC leader, Jairam Ramesh said that he would like to ask what is the Union Government doing to fulfil the demand of people of Manipur to repeal the Armed Forces Special provision Act?.

“I would like to remind the Union Home minister that when O Ibobi Singh was the state Chief Minister, he was able to persuade the Union government to repeal AFSPA in the Imphal area,” he said.
