Manipur State Commission for Women sensitises women on their rights

  • IMPHAL — The chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, has appealed to the public to understand and implement the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to ensure a safe and supportive environment and to encourage all women to empower themselves and actively contribute in raising awareness in society.

  • “If we face any problem, we should report to the Internal Complaints Committee of the workplace or institution,” she said while speaking at the one-day sensitisation programme on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act, 2013” in Imphal on Thursday. The programme was jointly organised by the MSCW and College of Food Technology (Central Agricultural University), Lamphelpat.

  • Stating that women have always played a vital role in shaping society both in visible leadership and behind the scenes support that keeps communities strong and concerned, she said, “Knowing our rights is the first step towards empowerment. As women, we must be aware of the laws and protections that exist to ensure our dignity, safety and equality in society.”

  • During the technical session, Advocate Thiyam Rajkishore spoke on “Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) Act, 2013.”
  • MSCW member secretary, W Phajatombi Devi, MSCW members including Lourembam Dayabati Devi, SK Sophia Moyon and T Chongsin Koireng and Ng Joykumar Singh of College of Food Technology (CAU) Imphal attended the sensitisation programme as presidium members.

  • Students and staff of College of Food Technology (CAU) also attended the sensitisation programme.

  • An interaction session between the resource person and participants was also conducted as part of the sensitisation programme.
