Imphal, Feb. 28 (EMN): Manipur has set up a cell in the state Home department to liaise with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to assist the parents/relatives of Manipur citizens presently stranded at Ukraine due to the war crisis and to bring them back to India, official sources said.

The state Home department, in an order, appealed to the parents/relatives to send details of their children stranded in Ukraine to enable the state to take up the matter with MEA and seek assistance for their evacuation and safe return to India.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh has been monitoring the situation by directly communicating with the stranded students from Manipur.

Sharing a video call footage in a tweet, Singh wrote, "I'm closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and the condition of our children stranded there. It is such a relief to know that they are safe. They are on the way to Romania now."

Informing about the initiation of the evacuation process of students from the state in the war-hit Ukraine, he updated in a Facebook post that six students from the state are on their way to Romania in a specially arranged bus for the Indians, who are being evacuated from Ukraine.

Earlier, 12 students from Manipur had already evacuated, he informed.
