Imphal, July 23 (EMN): Manipur Sangais emerged as champion of the 1st North East Women's Football League (NEWFL) by defeating Sikkim Pandas 2-0 at the Sports Authority of India,(SAI) ground in Imphal on Saturday.
The first goal scored (by H Sunita) in 36th minute of the match was an own goal while the second goal was netted by Jersey number 5 Pakpi of Manipur Sangais in the 58th minute of the match.
Thus, Manipur Sangais went home richer with the cash prize of INR 5 lakh while the runner up title holder Sikkim won INR 2.5 lakh, medals, trophies etc. and other attractive prizes for the individuals. The golden boot award of the tournament went to footballer Naocha, who plays for Sikkim Pandas for scoring seven goals in the tourney.
Chairman Amin Pathan of Anantapura Sports Events Pvt. Ltd, Manipur MLA(Wangkhei)Th Arunkumar, All Manipur Football Association(AMFA)president M Ratankumar and other officials were present during the final match of the tourney.
It may be mentioned that the 1st NEWFL started at the SAI ground in Imphal from July 7 under the aegis of AMFA with the support of Ananthapura Sports Events Pvt Ltd, a Rajasthan based company.
