Manipur: RIMS produces 210 more doctors, specialists

Imphal, Sep. 15 (EMN): The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has added more than 210 doctors and specialists to the existing doctors’ strength in the country to ease the demand of healthcare workers on Thursday.
Among the newly added doctors and specialists are the residents of various states of the country including Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
The graduation ceremony of the newly passed out MBBS and Post Graduate students of RIMS was held at its jubilee hall in Imphal on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Works minister Govindas Konthoujam said that doctors need to have the spirit to serve the needy people and should be blessed by the sincere and noble service they render to the patients.
Congratulating all the passed out MBBS and PG students of RIMS, he said there are big responsibilities ahead after graduation from a medical college. Degree certificates were also distributed to those successful students.
In his speech, Director RIMS Prof. A Santa urged the young doctors to learn as much as possible so that one can perform, transform and reform the society.
Since its establishment, the 51-year-old RIMS has so far produced a total of 3,740 doctors including 2,227 specialist doctors, 199 Bachelor of Dental Surgery doctors,329 BSc nurses and 67 M Phil students.
Presently 484 undergraduates, 409 post graduates, 199 Bachelors of Dental Surgery, 16 MSc nursing, 203 BSc nursing students are enrolled. The corresponding numbers for MCh/DM courses are 15 (on roll) and 23 (passed).
On Sep. 14, RIMS celebrated its 51st foundation day.
