Manipur: RIMS among top 50 medical institutions and colleges under NIRF rankings

Imphal, July 15 (EMN): The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), premier medical institute in Imphal, continues to be the only medical college in the entire Northeast to figure amongst the top 50 medical Institutions and colleges of India.

RIMS is in the 46th Position in National Institutional Ranking Framework of Human Resource Development (NIRF) ranking 2022, released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, on Friday.

As per latest official reports, the 50-year-old institute has produced a total of 3,560 doctors; 1,968 specialist doctors; 67 clinical psychologists; 282 BSc nursing graduates and 115 dental surgeons.

Speaking to this reporter, Prof A Santa Singh, Director RIMS said, ‘this time our institute secured higher score (48.21) than previous year’s (46.50) whereas other prominent institutes including some of the top medical institutes are getting lesser scores than their previous records.’

All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Christian Medical College Vellore are the top three ranked institutions in the rankings.

Santa Singh said, RIMS is one of the few multidisciplinary institutes in the country having one of the highest post graduate intake capacity of nearly 150 candidates under 25 disciplines while citing that for the first time, the institute has also introduced DM courses in Nephrology and MSc Nursing courses.

It is a matter of great pride that RIMS, an institution of regional importance catering to the needs of the northeastern is ahead of many prominent institutions of India not only for the Northeast.

There are more than 560 medical colleges in India.
