Imphal, July 19 (EMN): In less than a week, Manipur has reported one more COVID-19 death on Tuesday after a gap of almost four months.
The Manipur COVID-19 deaths audit committee has reported a case of COVID-19 death from Kakching district in the last 24 hours, officials said on Tuesday.
The dead person had co-morbidities and was not vaccinated, said the state COVID-19 common control room in a press release. The cumulative number of deaths is 2122.
The state last reported two COVID deaths on March 17 this year in Manipur’s Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
Meanwhile, the northeastern states continue to witness a steady rise of new infections since the past few days as 90 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours and registered a single day positivity rate of 9.9 per cent.
With this figure, the number of active cases has increased to 576. Of them 439 are in home isolation. Among the districts, Imphal West remained one of the most vulnerable districts as the maximum number of fresh COVID infections has been reported from the district since the past few days. Meanwhile 50 persons including 42 from home isolation were discharged during the day.
In view of the sudden rise of the COVID-19 cases, the state authority has closed down all schools in the state till July 24.
According to the State COVID-19 Common Control Room, the number of recovered cases in Manipur as on Tuesday is 1,35,425. On July 19, the state had a recovery rate of 98.05 per cent. The overall caseload in Manipur is 1,38,123.
As per the latest update of the health department on vaccination, 30,22,243 doses including first dose of 16,04,382 second dose of 12,74,192 and precautionary dose of 1,43,669, have been administered in Manipur.
The first COVID-19 positive case in Manipur was reported on March 24, 2020 while the first death case due to the pandemic was reported on July 29 the same year.
