Manipur reports 18 delta variant of Covid

Imphal, June 18 (EMN): Manipur on Friday reported 18 cases of Delta variant of Covid-19.

A press release issued by the state Covid-19 common control room stated that adequate epidemiological steps have already been taken and urged the public to maintain Covid appropriate behaviour in order to prevent the spread of the virus to others.

In another development, a team of ENT surgeons of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) successfully conducted surgery for mucormycosis involving the nose and paranasal sinuses in a post Covid patient. The patient is undergoing treatment for Covid-19 infection in RIMS hospital, says an official.

The day’s surgery was conducted by a team comprising of Prof. Th Sudhiranjan, Dr. O Priyokumar and Dr. N Jiten Singh of ENT department.

Meanwhile, Manipur reported total fatalities of 12 Covid-19 patients taking the state’s death toll to 1033, according to a press release. Of the 12 deaths reported at five health centres in the state, seven were reported from Imphal West, two from Imphal East and one each from Bishnupur, Kakching and Churachandpur.

Meanwhile, the state recorded 603 fresh positive cases from 5,842 samples tested in the last 24 hours taking the state’s total infection tally to 62,946 besides decreasing the total number of active cases to 9,246. 

The new positive cases were detected from 15 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (190), Imphal East (119) and Churachandpur (78) districts.  

On the other hand, with 447 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases in Manipur reached 52,667, it said. The recovery rate stands at 83.67 %. 

As of Friday, 6,88,785 persons were screened at the entry points of the state, while 8,46,789 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state

Meanwhile, Manipur police have detained 188 persons across the state for violating health protocols and were released after serving warning. An amount of INR 65,400 was also collected as fine.

On the other hand, the state has so far given 5,65,184 anti-Covid jabs including first dose to 4,83,335 and second dose to 81,849 residents.
