Manipur remembers social activist Jana Neta Irawat

[caption id="attachment_274471" align="aligncenter" width="600"] Nongthombam Biren Singh unveiling the statue of Jana Neta Hijam Irawat at Lilashing Khongnangkhong (Thangmeiband) in Imphal on Monday.[/caption] Our Correspondent Imphal, Sep. 30 (EMN): Manipur observed Jana Neta Irawat Day (Irabot Day), the 123rd birth anniversary of Manipur’s renown social activist Jana Neta Hijam Irawat on Monday at the newly established Irawat Square at Thangmeiband in Imphal . On the occasion, Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh unveiled the statue of Irawat and paid  a floral tribute to the leader. Speaking at the state-level Jana Neta Day programme, the chief minister urged the public to follow the ideals of the great leader, who envisioned a united Manipur. He also called on the citizens to remember Irawat's dedication and efforts toward upholding oneness and integrity among different communities. Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar remembered Irawat as an important leader and highlighted his contribution in the fields of literature, sports and social uplift for the downtrodden. MLAs, Chief Secretary Manipur, DGP Manipur, high ranking civil and police officers, students and large number of people have attended the day's celebration. Organisations, clubs also observed the day by organising different programmes to mark the occasion. Some of the organisations also paid floral tribute at the statue of Irawat at Pishum Oinam Leikai area, the birth place of the social activist located in the Imphal west district.
