Imphal, Nov. 22 (EMN): The 13th Manipur Polo International 2019 was formally inaugurated at the historic Mapal Kangjeibung in Imphal on Friday, November 22.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Yumnam Khemchand Singh attended the formal inaugural function of the international polo tourney.
Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro of Manipur Legislative Assembly and Health and Family Welfare minister L Jayanta Kumar also attended the function as guest of honour and functional president.
In the day’s opening match, England decimated USA by pumping in nine goals while the USA team managed to pull back just two goals at the end of the match.
For the many lovers of polo who have been keenly following this prestigious tournament, the result came as a bit of a surprise as the US team had always been a strong contender in all the previous editions of this tournament and was the winner in 2015.
On the 2nd day of the tournament on Saturday, India A will take on England while India B (Manipur) will clash with France.
The International polo tournament was organised as part of popularising the Sangai festival-state’s annual tourism festival which is usually held during the last week of November every year.
