Imphal, June 30 (EMN): A police checking team and crime investigation department technical team stationed at Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district accused two people and seized 55 g of brown sugar worth around INR 11 lakh on June 29 Friday. The accused were identified as Silver Lunglo, aged 30, and Awungshi Shangreiyo Zimik, aged 31, both under Ukhrul District, police said.
The drug was found in four soap caps, concealed among the apples in a carton, police said. A case has been registered against them at Moreh police station.
Also, on Thursday, the Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) Manipur police department arrested two people along with 7 kg and 520.5 g of brown sugar at Sapermeina, a small hill town located about 30 km north of Imphal along national highway Imphal-Dimapur road. The contraband is worth around INR 80 lakh in local market, police said.
‘Acting on a reliable information, a team of NAB Manipur arrested two person namely Longjam Tomchou Meitei, aged 49, under Heingang Police station in Imphal East district and Yumnam Ibotomba, aged 54, under Sekmai police station in Imphal West district along with 7 kg and 520.5 g of brown sugar from Saparmeina bazaar,’ stated SP of NAB Manipur, W Basu Singh, in a press release.
Further one silver colour Maruti Wagon R car bearing registration number AS01BG/1493 carrying a sum of INR 15,260 in cash and other incriminating articles were also seized from their possession, it said.
A case has been registered under Narcotics Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act at the NAB Police station and investigation is on, the release added.
So far, eight persons including the chairman of Chandel autonomous district council who were arrested along with a huge quantity of narcotics drugs along with a large amount of cash were produced before the ND&PS court in Imphal and remanded n the police custody till July 2, reports added.
