A team of Churachandpur district police in Manipur seized suspected brown sugar weighing more than 5 kg from the possession of a woman, police said on Friday.
The incident took place when teams of Churachandpur police station led by Officer in charge of Churachandpur police station and a team of Women Police Station intercepted dark grey KIA Seltos car (AS27D3880) at Bijang vengpi while conducting surveillance along Sugnu-Churachandpur road around 9.30 am on Friday.
The police team in presence of the Executive Magistrate (Churachandpur) Zosanglur Joute, opened four bags recovered from the vehicle containing 440 soap cases of suspected brown sugar.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Vahhoihlhing Baite (41) wife of Paokholal Baite of T Lailoiphai village, Sangaikot in Churachandpur.
“On weighing, the suspected brown sugar was found to weigh 5.115 kg without the weight of the soap cases,” a police source said.
‘The suspected brown sugar, two mobile phones and KIA Seltos car were seized at 11.30 am by observing formalities and the individual was arrested at 11.40 am.’
A FIR case under ND & PS Act has been registered for further investigation, the source added. (Imphal, EMN)
