Imphal, April 23 (EMN): Close on the heels of the recovery of narcotics drugs from the possession of two persons in Churachandpur district, a team of Kangpokpi district police recovered narcotic drugs from the possession of two persons, police said on Saturday.
The arrest of the duo and recovery of the illegal drugs was made by a team of Kangpokpi district police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Saparmeina) L Sheimang Khongsai with officer-in-charges of Gamnom Saparmeina and Kangpokpi police stations under supervision of Amrita Sinha, Superintendent of Police on Friday.
The arrested duo have been identified as Seiginmang of S Bongpi from Motbung and Letminlal Haokip of Saitu.
The recovered items include six soap case containing suspected brown sugar weighing 237.63g (including the soap case), Everyday milk packet containing suspected opium weighing 1.010kg, two khaini tin(container) containing suspected opium weighing 75.63g and one blue packet containing 200 numbers of suspected WY tablets weighing 20.09g.
“The recovered items were seized along with one mobile phone”, a senior police officer of Kangpokpi district informed. A case was registered at Gamnom Saparmeina police station under section 21(b)/22(b)/18(c) Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Meanwhile, Narcotic Cell Team B of Moreh police station also recovered suspected brown sugar weighing around 2 kg from a house in Moreh, a commercial town 110 km south of Imphal on Friday night.
Confirming this in a tweet, Chief Minister N Biren Singh wrote, “65 soap cases weighing 2.700kg including the weight of the soap cases were recovered and formally seized from the residence of Mrs. Neikhoneng Khongsai Nengboi, 26 years w/o Seiminlal Khongsai of Moreh Mission Veng, Ward No 2 at around 8:30 pm on April 22”.
On the night of April 20, Churachandpur Police in a joint operation with 36 Assam Rifles recovered 70 soap cases of narcotics, suspected to be brown sugar from two individuals.
