Manipur Police reactivates anti-vehicle theft cell

Imphal, April 20 (EMN): Manipur Police department reactivated its three year old Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell to detect and crack all vehicle theft cases by revisiting all the cases one by one as vehicle theft cases soars in the state.

Informing this in a press conference at the Imphal West district police headquarters, Inspector General of Police (IGP)Themthing Ngashangva said that the step has been taken to deal with cases of vehicle thefts in the state under the supervision of additional DGP, Manipur.

Stating that some of the important vehicle theft gangs and cases have been detected recently, IGP Themthing said that all the cases will be revived and revisited to identify the vehicle theft gangs and take necessary steps.

Informing that one swift car was hit by an unknown red car, which was later identified and found as a Honda city car abandoned at Kwakta on December 26 last year, he added that the car belonged to one Khullakpam Boboicha of Lilong Makha Leikai in Thoubal district. But the person turned out to be fictitious and on further investigation, it was learnt that the seized vehicle was reportedly taking shelter in the house of one V Sominlien Vaiphei of Torbung in Churachandpur district.

Bishnupur district police raided the said place and incriminating articles such as a set of vehicle keys, vehicle registration plate, seals having imprints of different district transport officers, rapid gun, blank PVC cards etc. were found, while the accused is still at large, he said.

On April 19, a white Honda Activa 5G parked in front of the CID office Babupara in Imphal was found stolen. Imphal West district police swung into action and recovered the two wheeler from one Danish Khan (19) of Lilong Mayai leikai in Thoubal district.

During investigation, Danish revealed that one Md Wajid alias Muthi (19) of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, who promised to pay INR 5000 to drive the two wheeler towards Lilong Bazar after stealing it, was the mastermind behind the crime.

As per Danish’s disclosure, Wajid, who is still at large, was involved in different theft cases operating in Imphal West and Imphal East districts. Other members of the group have been identified as Md Juber and Md Momocha, both from Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai.

Seeking public support and cooperation in arresting the accused in vehicle theft and also to crack other theft cases, the IGP appealed to the public to park their vehicles only in authorised parking areas.

He also asked parking operators to install security gadgets including CCTV cameras in allocated parking space to prevent, deter and detect vehicle theft cases.
