Manipur police lands huge WIY drug cache

Imphal, Jan. 7 (EMN): In one of the biggest drug hauls in Manipur, the state’s police have seized a huge cache of WY (World is Yours) tablets and heroin worth more than INR three crore in the international market. The drugs were confiscated from a truck that was reported to have been carrying sand in Imphal, reports said on Sun.

The incident occurred when a team of Manipur police based on an input stopped and checked a sand-laden truck (AS-01CC/2349) near the gate of NG College in Imphal under Lamphel police station around noon on Sat., sources said. The truck reportedly came from Moreh, a border town about 110 km south of Imphal.

The contraband tablets numbered around 72,000 while the heroin weighted around 286 grams, the reports said. They were said to have been found packed in different plastic packets and hidden under the sand, it added. The total worth of the seized contraband drugs is estimated to be more than INR three crore in the international market, according to police sources.

On Jan. 1, the narcotics cell of Manipur police attached with the Imphal east district police seized heroin in the form of a cake worth about INR 42 lakh during a frisking and checking operation, according to police.

The white ‘cake’ of heroin weighing around 350 gram was seized from one Wilson Keishing (47) of Sailent village under Laikoiching in Senapati district around 6.30 pm on the first day of 2018, police said.

On Dec. 31 2017, Assam Rifles troops seized 95 WY tablets, 9.5 gram of heroin, and various other items used for packing, injecting and smoking drugs; and Rs 38,150 in cash. They were seized from the possession of one Sonia (22) wife of a Md Alloc, alleged kingpin in running the illegal business during an operation along with a team of Thoubal commandos in Sangaiyumpham area, sources had said.
