Manipur Police suspend havildar Elangbam Surjit Singh over alleged insurgent links.

IMPHAL — Another police personnel has been placed under suspension in Manipur for alleged involvement with an unlawful armed organisation, following the suspension of two personnel last week in connection with the escape of a member of a banned insurgent organisation.
According to police sources, the suspended Manipur police personnel has been identified as Elangbam Surjit Singh, a havildar attached to Kakching police commando.
He was arrested along with another person on April 13 from Thoubal district for his alleged involvement with Kangleipak Communist Party (Ibungo Ngangom), and has been placed under suspension.

One service pistol with ten 9mm rounds was also reportedly seized from his possession, sources added.
“Manipur Police reiterates its firm commitment to maintaining discipline and integrity within the force and will take strict action against any personnel found involved in misconduct or indiscipline,” said Manipur police in a statement late Wednesday night.
Last week, two police personnel, including a sub-inspector, were suspended in connection with the escape of a member of People’s Liberation Army (PLA), an armed wing of Revolutionary People’s Front, a banned insurgent outfit, from police custody.
According to reports, the said member of the banned insurgent organisation was arrested by security forces on March 31 from the Khabeisoi area under Heingang Police Station.
Meanwhile, 750 officers and personnel of Manipur police were awarded the DGP Commendation Roll with Disc 2025 in recognition of their service and dedication.
Twenty police personnel each from Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Kamjong and Kangpokpi districts received the award, while 19 personnel in Chandel, 17 in Churachandpur, 14 in Bishnupur, 13 in Noney and six in Pherzawl were among the awardees.
