Manipur police detects child trafficking

Imphal, April 3 (EMN): Manipur police anti—human trafficking unit and Criminal investigation department, Imphal airport unit has detected a number of human/child trafficking cases including a case of 17 years old girl from Kohima in Imphal International airport recently.
A team of CID (Special Branch) off loaded a 17 year old girl from Chandmari in Kohima (Nagaland) from Jet airways (9W-2843) at Imphal International airport on January 16 this year, according to a release. The girl had been missing since January 13 and police suspected the plan for trafficking her to Delhi. She was handed over to Nagaland police on January 17, 2017, Manipur Police PRO Khoisnam Sarma said in a press release.
Similarly a team of anti—human trafficking unit, Imphal West district detained 8 boys who were coming from Churachandpur side and planning to proceed to Chennai via Kolkata as workers at Imphal International airport,Manipur at around 1.30pm on March 27 this year.
“As there was inconsistency between their documents and physical appearances, the police team contacted Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Churachandpur and revealed that, Aadhaar cards/documents were forged one and they are suspected to be Myanmar nationals,” says Manipur Police PRO Khoisnam Sarma in a press release. “They were handed over to CWC, Churachandpur and further verification is going on.”Similarly the same team also rescued Hatchonghoi (23) of M Lunmual village under Singhat sub-division in Churachandpur who was brought by Lhingneo Kipgen (29) of Kangpokpi ward number 5 at Imphal International airport on March 28, it said. Hatchchonghoi who was to be trafficked to Singapore via Kolkata, is kept at Punya shelter home, Thangmeiband by a magisterial order.
Considering the recent incidents seriously, Manipur Police department appealed to remain vigilant against propel offering jobs and incentives outside the state of Manipur/India. “Parents/Guardians are to guard their wards against fraudulent advertisement over the website/internet. Verification and confirmation of authencity of job/shelter for children be always done before sending them outside the state,” it reminded.
