Manipur Police busts secret workshop of vehicle thieves

Imphal, May 6 (EMN): Two weeks after reactivating its Anti Vehicle Theft Cell, a team of special commando unit of Manipur Police department busted a ‘secret workshop’ run by vehicle thieves and recovered many two wheeler parts and accessories.
Initially, a team of special commando units stationed at Khabeisoi in Imphal East district arrested one person namely L Meghajit Singh during a search operation at Porompat Pangal Leirak crossing near an oil pump on Wednesday around 2:30pm, according to a reliable source.
From his disclosure, police came to know that he along with one Dinesh Singh were working together and involved in modifying the stolen two wheelers at the ‘secret workshop’ located at Kongba Uchekon Khunou area under Imphal East district near a local club, people familiar with the development claimed.
In the follow up, the special commando team conducted search operation at the ‘secret workshop’ and during the search, a chassis of one black Access along with another chassis of silver colour Honda activa and several other two wheeler accessories vehicles were recovered from the spot.
“The arrested person and seized items have been handed over to Porompat Police Station for further necessary legal action,” the source said.
It may be mentioned that Wednesday’s arrest and seizure of accessories of two wheelers took place after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Themthing Ngashangva of Manipur Police department announced to reactivate its three-year-old Anti-Vehicle Theft Cell to detect and crack all vehicle theft cases by revisiting all the cases one by one as vehicle theft cases soar in the state particularly two wheelers.
On April 20, IGP Ngashangva said that some of the important vehicle theft gangs and cases have been detected recently and all the cases will be revived and revisited to identify the vehicle theft gangs.
A team of Delhi Police led by a special staff of South West Delhi, with the help of Manipur Police have already recovered 12 stolen vehicles including seven Toyota Fortuner SUVs and three Hyundai Creta from different parts of Manipur in November last year.
