Manipur police arrests two suspected illegal drug sellers

IMPHAL: The Manipur police arrested two persons on charges of illegally selling cough syrup during a search operation at Lamphel Sanakeithel area under Imphal west district.

The arrest and seizure was made during a search operation by a team of police commandos led by inspector Kh Henery Singh, officer in charge of Imphal East district unit under the command of Additional SP (Operation) Kh Herojit Singh of Imphal East and under the supervision of SP Ksh Shivakanta Singh of Imphal East district at Lamphel Sana Keithel near AG Colony in Imphal on Wednesday, police said on Thursday.

According to police sources, the arrested persons have been identified as Md Riyajuddin (40) of Hatta Minuthong, Golapati, Imphal West district and Shamurailatpam Rojina Devi (39) of Kakching Sumak Leikai, Ward number II, Kakching Police Station presently staying at Lamphel Sana Keithel AG Colony, Imphal west District from a medical store (Universal Pharma, Lamphel Sana Keithel near AG Colony) and seized 921 bottles of cough syrup bottles.

The arrested persons, according to police, have been in the trade of illegal selling of cough syrup to unauthorised customers for quite some time.

The arrested persons along with the seized items have been handed over to Lamphel Police Station for taking up further necessary legal action, police sources said.

Investigation is also on to find out other involved persons, it added.
