Imphal, Sep. 11 (EMN): Manipur police have finally rounded up a government official who was a key man behind issuing fabricated land records and 35 fake land pattas of land measuring around 19 acres of state or forest land under Chaobok hills to private individuals.
The arrested person has been identified as one Md Nasimuddin (54) of Kyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai in Imphal East district. Md Nasimuddin is in-charge of SK Irong Chesaba and now posted at sub-deputy collector (SDC) office, Chandel.
Informing this during a press conference here on Sunday, additional DGP Clay Khongsai said Md Nasimuddin was arrested on Saturday and kept under the custody of Thoubal district police station.
Three other persons -- Md Allauddin (55), Md Shah Daud Khan and Thiyam Nipamacha Singh (65) -- were also arrested in connection with the case.
“They were thoroughly interrogated while they were in police custody,” he said.
“From the interrogation, it has come to light that the accused in collusion with some other staff have issued fabricated/fake 35 land pattas to private individuals and also had resulted in the loss of around 19 acres of forest or state land.”
In addition, a case has been registered at Thoubal police station in connection with the conversion of agricultural land to Ingkhol (residential land) class without proper approval.
While checking land records both at the level of sub-divisional officer Lilong and at the Directorate of Settlement, discrepancies in the land record and mutation without any authorization were found, 14 land records entered as Ingkhol (residential land) in computerised records were tampered blatantly by revenue official, he added. Further investigation is on.
In another development, one person who is said to be an advisor of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) has been arrested with a .38 pistol along with one magazine during an operation by personnel of Imphal West district police on Saturday, the additional DGP Clay Khongsai said.
One laptop along with a bag and charger, two mobile handsets and one wallet containing INR 1000, one aadhaar card and one voter ID card were also recovered.
The arrested person, who has been identified as one Thokchom Suresh alias Tombi alias Pareihanba of Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai in Imphal East district, has been handed over to Porompat police station and registered as case for investigation, the senior police officer said.
