Manipur PHED minister flags off Van Mahotsav
Dimapur, July 3 (EMN): A mass tree plantation drive was organised by the NSS Unit-1 and 2 of Asufü Christian Institute (ACI), Mao in observance of Van Mahotsav .
An update informed that L Dikho, Minister for PHED, Printing and Stationery, govt. of Manipur flagged off the plantation drive in the presence of NG Mary Saza, PO NSS Unit-1 and Ashikho Eloziia, PO NSS Unit-2 along with the NSS volunteers and staff of ACI. The volunteers covered more than 10 km from Asufü to Chüherü, Punanamei planting about 1650 Cherry tree saplings donated by the minister.
Speaking during the programme, Dikho said that there was no loss in spending money and time to preserve and conserve the environment. The minister acknowledged everyone who initiated the drive and reiterated that every youth in the neighbouring villages ought to emulate the good work in saving the environment in the region, it stated.
Van Mahotsav week (an annual tree-planting festival) is celebrated from July 1 to the 7th every year to spread awareness on conservation of forest across the country. Thousands of trees were planted throughout the country every year during the week, it added.
