Manipur organises Fit India Sundays on cycle

  • IMPHAL — Fit India Sundays on Cycle, a nation-wide campaign, was conducted at Sports Authority of India (SAI), Northeastern regional centre, Takyel complex in Imphal on Sunday.

  • The cycle rally started from SAI NERC Complex, Imphal, and culminated at Malom Oil Depot covering a distance of around 20 km. The cycle rally was flagged off by the joint director of IPR, L Ashok Kumar, in the presence of officials from sports authority of India (SAI).

  • Addressing the gathering, DIPR joint director, Ashok Kumar, mentioned about the importance of cycling in order to maintain a healthy life. Stating that cycling in olden time was the only means of transportation, he encouraged the public to undertake cycling for at least 30 minutes a day for a better and healthy livelihood.

  • The event was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Taking the vision forward, the Ministry has announced the launch of Fit India Cycling Drive- making cycling Sundays a Janbhagidari movement with an aim of making cycling an integral part of Indian lifestyles.

  • The “India Sundays on Cycle” campaign has rapidly involved into a nation-wide movement, encouraging citizens to dedicate time each Sunday to fitness and environmental awareness in alignment with the Prime Minister’s mantra, “Fitness Ka Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz.”

  • The Fit India Cycling drive was aimed at promoting personal health while reinforcing environmental sustainability. Besides, it aims to bridge the gap between individual’s wellness and collective responsibility towards reducing pollution and creating a healthier planet.

  • As a part of the event, a one-minute silent was observed in solidarity with the victims of Pahalgam (Kashmir) terror attack.
