Imphal, April 27

Government offices in Manipur today wore a deserted look as all the government employees took mass-casual leave for three days from today. The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the government employees and pensioners decided to go ahead with this strike after the state government failed to act to their demands. It may be mentioned that the JAC had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) placing the demands on May 19, 2010. However, the government has not been able to translate the agreements into action.
Recently, members of the JAC had a meeting with the State Chief Secretary on April 25, and he ruled out the possibility of fulfilling the demands as it is beyond his capability.
A member of the JAC said that the demands are in the interest of all the employees, workers and pensioners of the state.
The negligence of the state government to the demands is an act of extreme disrespect to the employees and violation of their rights, added the JAC member.
The demands include re-implementation of old pension scheme after abolishing the new one; regular appointment of the adhoc, master-roll and casual staff for the vacant posts in various departments; prohibiting privatisation of government departments; to implement 6TH Pay Commission and the revisions of 7th Pay Commission; to increase the arrears etc.
The JAC warned that it is ready to resort to sterner protest if the state government fails to respond positively to the demands with the three-day strike of mass casual leave.
