Manipur observes national science day, others

Our Correspondent Imphal, May 18 (EMN): The National science day and International museums day 2018 cum the 13th anniversary day of Manipur science centre was observed at the auditorium of Manipur Science Centre Takyelpat in Imphal on May 18 Friday. With theme “science & technology for a sustainable future,” the observation was organised by the department of science and technology with spot painting competitions for school students. Deputy Chief Minister, Y Joykumar Singh who holds Science & Technology portfolio was the chief guest of the observation while Commissioner (Sc & Tech) T Pamei and Director (Sc & Tech), Elangbam Ibocha Singh were also present at the observation. Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar said that science is all about the things that happens around us. He said, learning science is to think and the question of how things are happening and its relation with nature. Young minds should try to understand the laws of nature and its relation with human beings as well, he added. In his speech, Commissioner (Sc & Tech) Pamei said, students should have inquisitive minds to enquire and observe things around them. He said, scientific understanding among students will help them develop innovative ideas. Director (Sc & Tech), Elangbam Ibocha Singh said that the National science day is being observed every year to instil scientific temperament to the students of the state. Therefore, scientific temperament has to be imbibed among people mostly to the young minds, he said. He stated that Manipur science centre was set up in 2005 to facilitate students where many indoor and outdoor science shows are being displayed. Digital planetarium which is set up in the campus has also become functional from March this year. Awards were also distributed to the students who got positions in the spot painting competitions.
