Eight journalists including an editor receives Manipur State Journalists Award 2017

Imphal, Nov. 17(EMN): Eight reporters including an editor of a vernacular dailies were awarded Manipur State Journalists Award 2017 for their reporting skills in diverse fields during the day long National Press Day observation cum seminar held under the aegis of Directorate of Information and Public Relation, Government of Manipur in Imphal on Nov 16. Thursday.
The award winning reporters are A Dilipkumar (Parliamentary reporting),L Shamungou (Science and Technology), S Aruna (Women and Child) and M Romen (Sports) from The Sangai Express; Daniel Chabungbam (Rural reporting) and Y Ibomcha (Public Health) of Poknapham daily and A Babycha (Arts and Culture).
The award winning editor was Hemantakumar Ningomba of Hueiyen Lanpao vernacular for his editorials on National integration and communal harmony. They were each awarded a cheque of Rs 25,000 each along with a memento and a traditional shawl.
The awards were distributed by the state’s Consumers’ Affairs and Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam during a function which was attended by the commissioner DIPR K Radhakumar, Director IPR Meghachandra Kongbam and others at 1st battalion Manipur Rifles banquet hall.
The formal awarding ceremony was followed by a seminar on ‘challenges before the media’ wherein General Secretary Yumnam Rupachandra of Editors’ Guild Manipur, Ex-President- Sothing Shimray of Manipur Hills Journalists’ Union and All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union member- Sunzu Bachaspatimayum spoke as resources persons.
Veteran journalists Akoijam Sanaton, former editor of Ehou vernacular moderated the session.
In November 2008, the first Manipur State Journalist Award were given away to five journalists including an editor for their prolific editorials and reports on national integration and communal harmony, rural, health and women and child. But it was expanded in the following years. The first recipient for the Manipur State Journalist Award, 1994 was the then Editor (L) N Tombi Singh of Manipur Mail. The award initially carried a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a certificate.
