Imphal, Dec. 3 (EMN): Manipur observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2019 on the theme “Promoting the participation of persons with disabilities and their leadership: taking action on the 2030 Development Agenda” on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen informed that the Unique Disability ID (UDID) for persons with disabilities project has already been launched in 16 districts of Manipur.
She said the project is being implemented with a view of creating a national database for persons with disabilities and to issue UDID card to them.
The minister said the project will not only encourage transparency, efficiency and ease of delivering the government benefits to the person with disabilities, but also ensure consistency. It will also help in streamlining the tracking the progress of beneficiaries at all levels.
Citing that the department in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation, Guwahati has conducted various assessment camps to identify the differently-abled people for providing various aids and appliances, she requested the citizens to inform the department whoever require these aids.
The minister also assured that the department will continue to work for the welfare of the differently-abled by implementing various welfare schemes and programmes.
Hearing aids, tricycle and wheelchair were distributed to the differently-abled people.
