Manipur: Man stabs wife, children; tries to kill himself

Imphal, March 27 (EMN): In a shocking incident, a man stabbed his wife and two children before slitting his own throat in Manipur.

The incident took place at Changangei Maning Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal West district under Lamphel Police Station on Saturday.

According to sources, the man identified as Ch Surjit Kumar (42), a mechanic at Loktak project power house, and his wife Abesana (36) sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at two different hospitals in Imphal, while the two children – Poireinganbi (4) and Diamond (2) succumbed to the injuries.

A team of Imphal West District Police visited the site of the incident while a team from Manipur Forensic department examined the dead bodies.

One knife and a hammer have been recovered from the spot.

It is yet to be ascertained why Surjit Kumar committed the crime. Lamphel Police have registered a case in this regard and further investigation is underway.
