Manipur Horti. minister flags off 2nd consignment of organic turmeric to Delhi

Imphal, Feb. 19 (EMN): Horticulture and Soil
Conservation Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar on Wednesday flagged off the second
consignment of organic turmeric from
Manipur’s Pherzawl district to a New Delhi-based company at the Horticulture
and Soil Conservation department in Imphal.
The first consignment weighing five quintals was airlifted the previous month to Mumbai-based companies.
The organic ginger consignment weighing 3.5 metric tonnes were produced by the Sinlung Organic Farmers Producers Company , Pherzawl registered under Moma. The consignment will be supplied to Revanta Foods Pvt Ltd, New Delhi.
Speaking to reporters, the minister said that the department with its agency Moma has been working for the welfare of the organic farmers under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER), a central scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare.
With sheer dedication and sincerity the department officials, it has been successfully marketing organic produces outside the state, he said.
The organic ginger produced by the farmers of the Parbung and surrounding areas of Pherzawl district has been marketed to a New Delhi-based company, he informed.
The minister appealed the farmers and officials to continue working with passion so that the produces of the state is recognised globally.
Moma Project Director Debadutta Sharma said the department is focusing on producing more organic produces in order to benefit farmers.
He also informed that certification process for 1,000 ginger farmers began last year in the Pherzawl district.
