IMPHAL — Manipur Government has announced INR 10 lakh cash award to Rizwan Malik, Vir Chakra awardee and Squadron Leader of the Indian Air Force, as a mark of recognition for his service during Operation Sindoor.

Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik, a resident of Keikhu in Manipur’s Imphal East district, commissioned into the Indian Air Force in 2015 as a Su-30MKI fighter pilot, was conferred the Vir Chakra on the occasion of India’s 79th Independence Day for his daring and decisive deep-penetration strikes during ‘Operation Sindoor.’

The state government has also reiterated its commitment to supporting and celebrating the bravery of the nation's armed forces personnel.

Meanwhile, a day after Manipur Governor’s felicitation, Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR-South) also honoured Malik at a special ceremony held at Mantripukhri near Imphal on Tuesday.

Rizwan’s precision, courage, and unwavering resolve played a pivotal role in the mission’s success, earning him one of the nation’s highest wartime gallantry awards. Today, he stands not only as a decorated pilot but as a symbol of grit, excellence, and the spirit of service.

An alumnus of Sainik School Imphal and the National Defence Academy, Malik’s story is deeply rooted in Manipur’s proud tradition of service. His achievements reflect the aspirations of a region that has long contributed to the nation’s defence with honour and distinction.

On Monday, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla felicitated the air force officer, accompanied was by his family members, at Raj Bhavan, Imphal.
