Manipur govt. taking up measures to control spread of Covid 19

Imphal,May 7 (EMN): The Manipur Government has been taking all measures to contain and control the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in the state, Chief Secretary Dr. J Suresh Babu said on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters at the conference hall, Old Secretariat, Imphal, Dr. Suresh Babu said the lockdown restrictions that have been imposed though the state is green zone, keeping in view of the new development in some northeast states and also return of stranded people of the state.

Dr. Suresh Babu accompanied by Principal Secretary (Health) Vumlunmang Vualnam, also admitted that the chief minister and the cabinet ministers are reviewing the situation from time to time. A State Consultative Committee is established with ministers, MLAs, prominent citizens and officials under the chairmanship of the chief minister. The State Task Force under the Chairmanship of the chief secretary is meeting daily to take stock of the situation and plan a strategy for the next day and District level Committees are meeting to implement the decisions taken by State Task Force.

The State Home department, Health department, Police department, Transport department and all departments dealing with essential services are working relentlessly for the last two months. Two positive cases were successfully treated by our medical teams and all other agencies have succeeded in containing the spread of disease from these two cases.

A team of senior officers led by the chief secretary, additional chief secretary (relief), principal secretary (health), ADGP (L&O), commissioner works and others visited Jiribam today to assess the requirement of construction of temporary Pandal (Mandap), temporary toilets, screening area, parking for the 40 odd buses to ferry passengers, segregation area etc.

On Covid-19 management, he said that two Covid-19 treatment blocks are established at JNIMS and RIMS with total bed capacity of 100 including 20 for ICU. Isolation wards are also established in each district hospital and at Moreh in addition to establishment of Flu Clinics in all these places. Each district is provided with 40 surveillance teams and Rapid Response Team.

In order to facilitate timely lifting, the state government recently established a Corpus fund of INR 5 crore (as revolving fund) with CAF & PD department. Strict monitoring is put in place and the Deputy Commissioners are made responsible. There is sufficient quantity of rice, he added.
