Manipur Govt plans for new market shed in Imphal

Imphal, May 2 (EMN): Manipur’s Urban development Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar Singh on Tuesday announced that the government has a plan for a new market shed with modern facilities at Lamphel Super Market in Imphal. He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the function at the 7th Foundation Day of the Lamphel Super Market Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup and Khwairamband Bazar New Market Non-Licence Holders Association held at Lamphel Super Market, Imphal West district this morning. Minister Shyamkumar also informed the women vendors of Lamphel Super Market that he will discuss with the Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his Council of Minister in connection with the construction of a new market shed.Praising Chief Minister Biren as a dynamic leader of the state, he assured the women vendors that he will put up a report to the Chief Minister regarding the problems, demands and suggestions of the women vendors. He was optimistic that the Chief Minister will address the grievances of the women vendors, including those coming from Mao town.
He said that, the State needs cold storage facility for storing perishable products. He also said that, he will discuss with the Chief Minister on buying vegetable and other products including unsold ones, to reduce the number of street vendors. He also added that, the Horticulture Department is planning to open an organic outlet (shop) at Sanjenthong at the earliest.
Speaking on the illegal encroachment issue around the Lamphel area, Minister Shyamkumar said that, the public need to protect the land as it is the asset of the State. He further said that, Manipur cannot be called developed only by developing Imphal city. He also appealed to the public to maintain cleanliness around the market area.
The function was attended by H. Nutanchandra, Corporator of Ward No. 3, IMC; Ima S. Ibetombi, President of Lamphel Supermarket Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup; Ima Ibemhal, President of Non-License Holders Association, President of Mao Union; women vendors and local residents. The event was organised by Lamphel Super Market Chaokhat Thourang Nupi Lup and Khwairamband Bazar New Market Non-Licence Holders Association.
