Manipur Governor takes stock of vaccination centres

Imphal, Feb. 8 (EMN): After visiting two important hospitals in and around Imphal to encourage Covid vaccination, Manipur Governor La Ganesan on Tuesday inspected Covid Vaccination Centres in the state’s Kangpokpi and Senapati districts to review the overall preparedness with health and district-level officials for maximum coverage under Covid-19 Vaccination Programme.

Ganesan inspected the facilities provided for the vaccination programme and interacted with students, who were waiting their turns to get vaccinated. He asked the students to be the messengers of the vaccination programme. Governor distributed vaccination certificates, vaccination badges and pens to the students.

Later, the Governor went to Senapati district headquarters, where he visited the Covid Vaccination Centre opened at the Mini Stadium.

The governor also inspected the facilities provided for the vaccination and interacted with the people and enquired about the preparedness, coverage and people’s response to the programme.

Deputy Commissioner, Senapati and Health officials brief on the coverage, preparedness and assured coverage of maximum population in the programme. Governor also distributed Vaccination Certificates to the beneficiaries, while urging the district administration to interact with school authorities for their support to ensure maximum enrolment of students in the vaccination programme.

Manipur logs 6 Covid deaths; 160 new cases

Manipur on Tuesday reported six Covid deaths from Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts in the last 24 hours, according to a press release from, Dr. Kh Sasheekumar Mangang of the Health department. The death toll stands at 2,072.

Meanwhile, the state reported 160 new Covid-19 cases after 2,055 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.  The positivity rate stands at 10 percent, taking the state’s tally to 1,35,170 with 3604 active cases.

With 209 new recoveries including 171 from home isolation in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases in Manipur reached 1,29,494. Thus, the state’s recovery rate declined to 95.80%, the release added.

Presently, 810 Covid-19 positive cases are under home isolation. Till date 15,43,272 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state, the release said.

As per latest official reports, the state has so far given 25,85,051 doses of Covid vaccines including 14,65,138 first and 10,78,285 second doses besides 41,628 precautionary doses to the residents, it added.

Moreover, the state has 127 new Omicron variants of SARS-CoV2 after the detection of 85 new Omicron cases on February 2.
