Manipur Governor inaugurates new auditorium of Sainik School Imphal

Anusuiya Uikey inaugurating a new auditorium of Sainik School Imphal at its Pangei campus on Monday.

IMPHAL — Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey inaugurated a new auditorium named after Captain Vikram Batra at Sainik School Imphal (SSI), Pangei campus in Imphal East district, on Monday.

The inaugural programme was held in the presence of Principal (SSI) Group Captain Rajneesh Kumar, Deputy Principal (SSI) Lt Colonel Satish Kumar, Administrative Officer (SSI) Squadron Leader L R Jote,Director (Planning) N Kulkarani Devi, teachers and students of the school.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor stressed the role of education in the development of a nation and the role of the teachers in moulding students to educated and ideal individuals.

She said that through education, students not only acquire knowledge but it also imbibe a sense of morality, culture and values.

Maintaining that the SSI, which was established in 1971, is one of the most prestigious schools in the country today due to the efforts of the school authorities, she said main objective of establishing Sainik schools is to prepare students academically and physically, as well as for entry into National Defence Academy and other military institutions.

The school has produced more than 300 capable and brave officers for the Army and Navy since its inception, said Uikey, adding that officers who passed out from the school had shown bravery and intelligence in Galwan Valley against the Chinese Army.

The governor also highlighted the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in providing girl students an opportunity to study in Sainik schools, thus giving a platform for the girls cadets to demonstrate their ability in national defence and to show their competency by equally participating in other trainings.

Urging the students to keep working hard, she also mentioned that 14 cadets from the SSI had got scholarship under ‘Deendayal Sparsh Yojana’ representation of cadets of the school in football and performance in ‘Subroto Cup’.

The governor also planted a tree and released a souvenir on the occasion, besides attending a luncheon with 540 cadets and staff of Sainik School as well as inspected the girls’ hostel and reviewing the progress of the under-onstruction building.

Manipur University team meets Governor

Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof N Lokendra Singh, along with the deans of schools of studies of the university, called on Manipur Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Monday to apprise her of issues pertaining to the regular faculties and employees of Manipur University who have been displaced due to the ethnic conflict that started on May 3 last year, and sought advice on the matter.

The Vice Chancellor also expressed gratitude to the governor for personally extending an invitation for the Convocation to the President of India during her recent visit to Delhi.
