Manipur Governor inaugurates Chhau Parva

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he three-day Chhau Parva, the festival of Chhau dances, began with a formal inaugural function in Imphal today.
Manipur Governor VK Duggal was the chief guest of the inaugural function. Vice Chairman of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy N Tombi was also in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Duggal said as most of you would know, Chhau is mainly performed by the Munda, Mahato,Kalindi,Pattnaik, Samal, Daroga, Mohanty, Archarya, Bhol, Kar, Dubey and Sahoo communities.The musical accompaniment is provided by the Mukhis,Kalindis,Ghadhei and Dhada communities who are also involved in the manufacture of these instruments.Chhau dance is also one of the Indian art forms inscribed in the UNESCO’s representative list of intangible heritage of humanity, being inscribed in 2010, says Governor. “I hope that the arts loving people of Manipur will have the opportunity to witness all the forms of Chhau dance and will appreciate the finer nuances of the dance”.
Govajang village’s appreciation note: The village of Govajang village at Moreh sub-division Chandel district have expressed their profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to the extension of benevolent and philantrophic services rendered by the DIG Rajiv Mankotia commander 26 assam rifles by providing solar light systems and other welfare projects under AR military civic action project allotted by the headquarters inspector general of assam rifles, according to Thangkhopao Kipgen of the village.
