IMPHAL — Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey engaged in discussions with representatives from various civil societies during her day-long visit to the Senapati district headquarters on Saturday.
The organisations included Naga People’s Organisation, Zeliangrong Union (Senapati Zone), Maram Union, Senapati District Women Association, Senapati District Students’ Association, Senapati District Olympic Association, Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Senapati District Branch and All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), according to a press release from Raj Bhavan Imphal.
During their meeting, the organisations raised several development issues concerning the district, such as the establishment of a medical college in Senapati district, the construction of a multipurpose hall, the upgrading of Don Bosco College, Maram, to a full-fledged university, the establishment of a rehabilitation centre for drug-affected youths as part of the drug surveillance programme, the operation of a blood bank in the district hospital, and the upgrading of the Astro Turf in Senapati.
“ANSAM raised their concerns over the centre’s decision to fence the Indo-Myanmar border,” the release said, adding that IRCS meanwhile requested the governor for an ambulance.
The organisations submitted memoranda to the governor, urging her to extend all possible assistance in the interest of the tribal people in the district. They also requested that the governor convey their message to the centre that union ministers should visit the hill districts.
The governor stated that the government is dedicated to developing the hill districts in the state and has implemented numerous welfare measures. She also reassured them that all possible assistance would be provided for the welfare of the people in the district.
Furthermore, the governor inquired about the ongoing developmental activities in the district and requested that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) furnish a detailed report on this matter.
Later, the governor attended the final match of the 3rd edition of the Lt. Col. (late) Robert TA Memorial Open Football Tournament, held at the Astro Turf Ground in Senapati town, where she distributed prizes.
In the final match, United Brothers FC (Ukhrul) emerged victorious, defeating Taphou FC (Senapati) with a score of 4-3 goals. The tournament was organised by the 16 Assam Rifles.
