IMPHAL — Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, along with his wife, Jyoti Bhalla, and top officials of the state forest department on April 18 launched the plantation season of the year by planting a popular wild fruit called 'Heirangoi’ (Garcinia spp) at state orchidarium at Khonghampat in the outskirts of Imphal. The wild fruit Heirangoi has high food, ecological and cultural value in Manipur.
After launching the plantation season, the governor visited the orchid display house, traversed through a trek route witnessing flowering of rare and endangered orchids and inspected the ground orchid plots.
The governor and his wife also witnessed the film produced by the state forest department on "Orchids of Manipur" and also a film on rejuvenation of dried natural spring in Langol Reserved Forest for the population of Kameng village by Central Forest Division, Imphal.
The governor has appreciated the efforts and advised the forest department officials to replicate similar efforts throughout the state.
Earlier, the principal chief conservator of forest, Anurag Bajpai, who is the head of the state forest department, led senior officers of the state forest department including conservator of forest, RK Amarjit, received the governor and his wife during their maiden visit at state orchidarium at Khonghampat.
