IMPHAL — The Manipur government has asked the people in the violence-hit state not to encroach on the properties of persons displaced by the ongoing conflict, as such incidents may ignite or aggravate the law and order situation in the state.
Commissioner, Home, T Ranjit Singh, Govt. of Manipur, issued an order in this regard on Tuesday.
The order stated that anyone found violating the court order shall be liable for contempt of the apex court, citing a September 25 Supreme Court order directing the Manipur government to ensure protection of the properties of displaced persons as well as those destroyed or burned in the violence and preventing their encroachment.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The state home department order came amid reports that properties belonging to members of one of the warring communities are being razed in various locations by the other.
"The state government views the matter very seriously with utmost sensitivity, as any such incident may further ignite or aggravate the law and order situation in the state," the order read.
It may be mentioned that the state government has recently cautioned civil society organisations, institutions, and individuals against renaming places in Manipur.
