Manipur government suspends classes for standards 9 to 12

Imphal, April 19 (EMN): The Manipur government has announced to suspend the physical classes for class 9 to 12 of all government, government-aided, private institutions/schools etc with immediate effect and until further orders in public interest. The commissioner (Education-Schools) T Ranjit Singh issued an order in this regard on Monday.
“Further it is ordered that online classes for these categories of classes will be resumed at the earliest on top priority,” the order said. At the same time, considering the seriousness of the ever increasing number of Covid-19 positive cases and impending threat caused to the general public by second wave of Covid 19, the state authority announced to postpone the matriculation examination 2021 and higher secondary examination 2021. Earlier the matriculation and higher secondary examinations were scheduled to be held on May 6 and May 5 respectively.
At the same time as a precautionary measures, it also ordered that all coaching classes and private tuitions teaching school students located within Manipur state as well as boarding and hostels in schools and private hostels accommodating students be closed with immediate effect.
It may be mentioned that the Manipur government had directed all its employees who are 45 or above to get a shot of the Covid-19 vaccine to effectively contain the spread of Covid-19.
Stating that the department has been issuing instructions from time to time regarding preventive measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, the government in a memorandum issued last week said that it had been monitoring the situation very closely based on the strategy adopted for prioritising the groups for vaccination to contain the spread of Covid 19.
The step has been taken a day after the state authority has made it mandatory for all persons entering in the northeastern state by air or by road to carry negative RT-PCR/TrueNat/CB-NAAT reports taken within 72 hours from arrival in the state.
On the other hand the state authority extended night curfew timing from 7 pm to 5 am every day against the previous order of 8 pm to 4 am in view of rise of Covid-19 positive cases in the state in the last few weeks.
Meanwhile, Manipur on Monday reported 54 new Covid-19 positive cases, which is the third highest single-day spike since January 5 this year, bringing the state’s total infection tally to 29,775, according to official sources.
On the other hand, with 12 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the total number of recovered Covid-19 cases reached 29,102, it said. Thus state’s recovery rate stands at 97.73 %.
One 61-year-old male from Imphal West district passed away due to Covid-19 at Shija Hospital in Imphal, taking the total death toll to 377 on Monday.
