IMPHAL — The Manipur government has extended the relaxed curfew timings in Imphal East, Imphal West and Bishnupur districts from 5 am to 10 pm for Sunday (October 22).

Imphal-state capital lies in Imphal West and Imphal East districts.

It may be mentioned that the state authority had extended curfew timings for all regions in the Imphal East and Imphal West districts for the first time since the violence broke out from 5 am to 10 pm on Saturday (October 21), against the usual 7 pm.

There is necessity to relax the restriction of movement to facilitate the public to purchase essential items including medicines and food items, etc., government order read.

This relaxation shall, however, not apply to any gatherings/large-scale, movement of persons/sit-in-protests/rallies, etc. which is unlawful in nature, the orders added.

Total curfew was clamped in Imphal West, Imphal East, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and some other valley districts after the outbreak of violence in the first week of May and it has been in force since then, except for relaxations of some hours.

It may be mentioned that Manipur had been witnessing violence since the first week of May, in which around 175 people were killed and nearly 50,000 people were displaced besides burning many villages and localities.
