Manipur government issues preventive measures amid Kuki-Zo student bodies calling public rally
IMPHAL — The government of Manipur has issued preventive and precautionary measures to maintain law and order in the state amid the proposed public rally called by the Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) and Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) on August 31.
The Commissioner of Home department issued a public notice in this regard on Friday.
The two student bodies have issued separate public notices, “urging for shutting down of all business establishments, government offices and private institutions and joint the rally” on Friday.
On this, the state government said that necessary measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incident and maintain law and order in the state.
“Any such act of issuing public notice for organising mass rally and urging to shutdown institutions which can pose grave impact on the prevailing law and order situation and which are likely to pose serious repercussions in the context of the ongoing law and order crisis in the state, is viewed very seriously by the state government with utmost sensitivity,” says the public appeal of the Commissioner (Home).
It also asked the general public including public functionaries to keep business establishments, government offices, and private institutions open as usual’.
Any individual found involved in causing disturbances will face prosecution under relevant provisions of laws, it stated.
Meanwhile, several student bodies, including the Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS), have issued a public notice prohibiting any form of rally, dharna, or agitation within their jurisdictions.
