IMPHAL —  Following reports on the spread of viral conjunctivitis in Manipur, the directorate of Education has issued a circular for all schools for strict adherence as per the suggestions issued by the state health authority.

The circular issued by the director of Education, L Nandkumar Singh, stated that all the schools should follow certain guidelines while dealing with the epidemic viral conjunctivitis.

“If one or two students are infected with conjunctivitis in a school, the infected students may be given leave for 10 days,” stated a circular issued by the director.

“If three or more students are infected in a class in a school, then the whole class may be closed for 10 days,” the circular added.

The circular also mentioned that if more than three inmates are infected in a hostel, the hostel may be closed for 10 days. It has, therefore, suggested proper hand washing practices among the students and teachers alike.

It stated that proper safety measures should be taken to control the spread of the viral conjunctivitis among the school going population at the school level which would go a long way in controlling the epidemic at the state level.

All zonal education officers are also instructed to circulate the guidelines to all schools under their respective jurisdiction immediately, the circular added.
