Manipur felicitates Commonwealth Games 2026 medallists with cash rewards and issues National Games appointment letters.

IMPHAL — The Manipur government on Saturday felicitated medallists and participants of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 and distributed appointment orders to gold medallists of the 36th and 37th National Games in Imphal.
The gold medallist of the Commonwealth Games 2026 was given a cash reward of INR 20 lakh and a certificate of recognition, while the silver medal winners were given a cash reward of INR 15 lakh each with a certificate.
The bronze medallist was given a cash reward of INR 10 lakh and a certificate, while the participants of the Glasgow Games were given INR 4 lakh each and a certificate.
In the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, Manipur secured four medals, including one gold, two silvers, and one bronze, out of India's 39 medals.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Diukho, felicitated Glasgow Games gold medallist weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, who came back to Imphal exclusively to attend the day’s programme after taking a break from her training schedule for the next Asian Games.
Khemchand Singh felicitated silver medallist Chanambam Rishikanta Singh, the first male medallist in weightlifting in the international arena from Manipur, who won a silver medal in the 60 kg weight category; Mayengbam Jadumani Singh, silver medallist in the 55 kg weight category boxing; and Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi, bronze medallist in the 58 kg weight category women’s weightlifting.

He also distributed appointment letters to 71 National Games gold medallists from the 36th and 37th National Games for appointment as Physical Education Teachers under the Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Department, apart from felicitating the coaches who accompanied the athletes at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 during the day’s event at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal.
Appointment letters were also handed over to four athletes under the Home Department and three Asian Games medallists under the Home Department.
Commending the efforts of local clubs, family members, and players for their achievements in their respective disciplines, the Chief Minister said that the prize money for the Commonwealth Games medal winners and participants was enhanced this time to further motivate them.
MLAs, the state Chief Secretary, senior government officials, and international and national-level sports persons were present during the day’s felicitation function.
